Pizza Pi Restaurant by Louise Kripal

Thanks to the Ghiassi family, (father-Saeed, daughter-Tina and Brother-Aresh), many old time Long Beach residents can once again experience the feel and "hang out" at one of their favorite haunts. Yes, the Ghiassi family with their eight employees have managed to fulfill a dream of many of us old-time residents: a dream to bring back the good food, fun and flavor of the original long gone but sorely missed Maury's Pizza. By this, I do not mean that "Pizza Pi" is a copy or resurrection of Maury's. You will not find dark, cramped booths with hand-scribbled walls nor bohemian-like decor adorned with dust-laden empty wine bottles hanging overhead, here. On the contrary, the Ghiassi's have gone to great lengths and expense to provide its customers with a variety of sitting areas, flanked by quaint Italian scenery painted walls yet somehow they've managed to retain a homey, almost 'Maury-like' coziness. Witness this for yourself at one of "Pizza Pi's" Laker or UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) Nights. The camaraderie-like mood of the packed house is enticing!

When it comes to food, Pizza Pi's chef-Marino Marchetti (from Venice) has gone up a few notches from Maury's by offering food that will knock your taste buds out. Besides the standard choices of sandwiches, salads, pizzas (all pizzas are now 2" bigger yet at the original price), lasagna, and ravioli; you'll find scrumptious weekly entrée specials and pastas with exquisite sauces (fresh and made from scratch). Desserts range from the usual Tiramisu and cannoli to special delicacies like-Zuppa Inglese (Angel cake heaven).

Future visions include the availability to set up a party in the large back room and possibly entertainment.
